HORSE PRINT | WHY
Saintes Marie’s de la mer. Early morning. The alarm goes off at 4:30 am and I hit the snooze button; 10 minutes later, it goes off again. I didn’t want to get up, then I hear a whisper, “WHY DID WE TRAVEL TO FRANCE? IF YOU WANTED TO SLEEP, WE SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN NEW YORK,” I reluctantly get up. Dragging myself through the motions I get to the location, put my camera together and get myself in position. My neck starts to hurt because I am laying on the wet sand, it’s difficult for me to pick my head up at this angle and look into my view finder. Mosquitoes as big as helicopters have launched an attack, I realized I have forgotten my bug spray. I just want out, I want bed.
I hear the whisper again “WHY? WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO US?” I close my eyes to block that irritating voice and everything around me. But instead now, I can smell the air, I can hear the birds chirping, horses running, water splashing, salt in the air when it touches my face and even the sand has molded it self from under me to support my neck better. When I open my eyes and look at this horse running through the water, I am in heaven. My WHY has been answered.
