BALD EAGLE PRINT | DIRECT HIT
Haines, Alaska. It was very early morning and still dark outside. I sat watching for eagles to photograph, but none were to be found. I decided to remain still and be on the lookout. I spotted something stirring on the riverbank. This eagle flew so fast he was clearly moving with intent. I continued to focus my camera as the vigor of his flight intensified. Suddenly, he took a sharp 90-degree turn, A half-eaten fish was the object of his desire and nothing was going to stop him from getting it. When food is scarce, eagles will find sustenance from carrion. I was astounded that he detected a rotting fish from a distance comparable to three city blocks.
