Norway. Early Evening. I had prayed for bad weather before I reached the top of the mountain. At the top, winds were very very strong and the snow felt like needles on my face. I had taken off my gloves to operate my camera. I couldn’t feel my fingers, they got numb within seconds. To take a photograph, I had to move my finger with the other hand to place it on the shutter button. The top of my hands felt like they were on fire. I wanted to scream in pain but there was nothing I could do as the Musk Oxen were very close.

This Musk Ox was sitting 15 ft away but on the lower side of the mountain. I wanted to get to his level so I can show his true size and strength. No matter how low I got to the ground with my camera, I was still above him as I was on the higher side of the mountain. I decided I needed to get to his level. As I got up and took 2 steps towards him, he decides to get up as well. Electricity passed through my body. I was in shock, not knowing what to do or where to run, I just kept looking at him. I didn’t have an exit strategy, on one side was the cliff and the other side was blocked by the other Musk Oxen. I didn’t know if he would charge at me, I just stood still. After a long minute or so, I realized this is what I had prayed for. So why was I afraid? I grabbed my camera and took this image. He posed as though he was a fashion model.

It’s true what they say, "be careful what you wish for.”
