HORSE PRINT | ON THE RISE
Saint-Maries-de-la-Mer. Horses standing on a beach in France. I arrived at the bay before sunrise. As soon as the sun peeked over the horizon the sky turned orange. I wanted to photograph the horses against the backdrop of the huge orange orb rising behind them. I needed to frame them smack dab in the middle of the sun.
This was easier said than done; getting this image would be a test of my physical strength. There is no camera magic or trick photography here. Honestly, the photo would be equally as beautiful if it was taken with a phone camera. Timing and composition define this image.
My window of opportunity was very narrow; the sun was rising, leaving only a few minutes. I was also carrying heavy camera equipment while trudging through calf-high mud. Suffice it to say, getting this image was a real workout.
