BEAR PRINT | PLAY TIME
Lake Clark, Alaska. This was shot in July of 2014. It was a pleasant afternoon around 4 pm and these cubs were having a great time playing with each other. Their mother was relaxing a few feet away, Raising two young cubs is a challenge, both for feeding as well as protecting. Male bears are a constant threat; they can kill the little ones if their mother is not vigilant.
All was quiet when suddenly, mom jumped up on her hind legs and began to scan the horizon. She heard the sound of a male bear. I was too close to get mom in my frame; instead, I took this picture of the little one mimicking his mother.
As soon as I took this picture, the bear family fled to safety. I searched for the male bear for five minutes before spotting him in the distance. It is amazing how bears can sense danger at such a distance.
