PUMA PRINT | ILLUSION
Chile. Early morning. This was the first day in Chile. We spotted 3 pumas. After following them for an hour, the mother and the cub had disappeared and we were left with the male puma. He kept looking at us every so often; when he did we stopped every thing and froze. It was clear he was allowing us to get close but he still kept his distance.
All of a sudden he disappeared; we kept looking for him, but couldn't find him anywhere. Then, suddenly he showed up from behind a bush. As soon as I saw him, I dropped down to the ground to photograph him. Thinking I was a small animal, the puma started to stalk and circle me.
The puma tracker I was with immediately understood what was going on and told me to get up right away. I refused because I wanted to photograph the puma from a very low angle to show his might and beauty.
When the puma was 10 feet away from me, my tracker had to walk closer inorder for the puma to realize we were together, and I wasn't so small. At that point, he changed his mind and took off.
