Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, Early Evening.
Every time I reach Saintes-Maries, my first stop is a small local restaurant where my friend and I have lunch. By now, the owner knows me; she always greets me with a big smile. This time, she has three children ranging from 11 to 14 years old with her as school was on break. After greeting her, I sit at my table, and I ask all the kids to join me. One of the little girls was so well put together. I asked her what does she want to do when she gets older? Her immediate answer was, "I will be a model and a clothing designer in New York." I asked her if she had visited NY, she said, "no but I will live there when I grow up." She was very confident for an 11-year-old girl and believed in herself.
Later that evening, I remembered her while I was shooting. Believing comes from within; we don’t have to experience everything to believe in it.
